The Czechs were very afraid of us, then they laughed. Polish football star returns to crash in Prague

The former goalkeeper of Arsenal, Swansea and the Polish national team understandably knows his teammates from the club Vladimír Coufal and Tomáš Souček well, and they discussed the national team match together.

“It was a positive surprise for them that they were able to beat Poland,” explained the 37-year-old goalkeeper in an interview with Poland’s Canal+ Sport. Fabianski continued.

At the same time, he also described how his Czech teammates were worried about the match. “Before leaving for the meeting, Tomáš and Vladimír had a chat, and both were very afraid of our national team. They discussed individual players and came to the conclusion that Poland has better footballers in all positions. But on the pitch it turned out exactly the opposite,” the Polish veteran returned to his pre-match forecasts.

Of course, he also noticed his colleagues’ displeasure from the subsequent unexpected point loss in Moldova, where Jaroslav Šilhavy’s team only played a 0:0 draw.

“You could sense a lot of dissatisfaction from the boys that they couldn’t score full points. The situation in the group basically opened up again. Both teams are now in a position to win the group,” added Fabianski.

The Poles did not hesitate in the second qualifying match and won a narrow 1:0 against Albania. Other qualifying matches are scheduled for June, when the Czech Republic plays in the Faroe Islands and Poland in Moldova.
