The Canarian cyclists dominated at the premiere of the ninth edition of the Ultrabike Santa Rosainternational mountain bike event. the Tenerife Jacob Reyesfrom the Fifty-Three club, and the Gran Canariaa Lourdes Bethencourtfrom the Iduna Vecindario club, proclaimed themselves winners of the first stage, under the name Time Trial Romero Lines, held on the island of La Graciosa. The weather conditions, with a sunny day and little wind, facilitated the improvement of the brands registered last year.
A total of 168 cyclists finished the test of the 192 registered. The start was given in the vicinity of the church of La Graciosa, the runners starting every 30 seconds, except for the last ten that did so with a difference of one minute.
Jacob Reyes, in the elite category, marked a time of 26 minutes, 16 seconds and 50 hundredths. In second position was classified the palmero Pedro Rodríguez (Vadebicis), who established a time of 26.57:50; Antonio Padrón from Lanzarote, from Tripasión-Euronics, finished third with a time of 27.08:18. The first foreigner in the classification was the Austrian Lukas Kaufmann (27.12:07), elite category. A cyclist who must be taken into account in view of the final victory after tomorrow’s queen stage, the last of the event. The forecasts place him as one of the favorites. The absolute champion will come out of the one with the best times of the two days. The first four of the table presented their credentials on the island of La Graciosa.
Regarding the female category, once again Lourdes Bethencourt, runner in the master 40 category, won the time trial comfortably. Her time of 33 minutes and 16 seconds was enough to beat Kataisa Sánchez, a member of Tenerife Bike Point and also a master 40, who stopped the clock at 33:50; For her part, the Italian Maria Giovanna finished third (36:28).
In the E-Bike modality (electric bikes), in which five cyclists took part and who left before the rest, defeated Ayose Marrero (A Relevos Cycling Team) with a mark of 31 minutes, 38 seconds and 69 hundredths.
The participants had a great time in La Graciosa, since once the test was over they were entertained with a paella by the organization, and then returned by boat to Órzola.
Tomorrow Sunday, queen stage
The queen stage of the ninth edition of the Ultrabike Santa Rosa, with which the event concludes, starts tomorrow at 8:30 am. The Ultra modality, of 111 kilometers, leaves from Costa Teguise towards the town of Teguise and then passes through Mala, Muñique, Tinajo, Tiagua and returns to Costa Teguise. Meanwhile, the runners who take part in the Bike modality, of 55 kilometers, start at the same time. The participation of about 600 cyclists is expected.
