Terzic: “We have already shown successful football at home”

Four of Borussia Dortmund’s remaining six league games will be played at home Signal Iduna Park. The first of these rises against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday evening. BVB trainer Edin Terzic relies on the home strength factor in the still open title fight.

If you are looking for reasons why Borussia Dortmund can still hope to win the championship after the 28th matchday, then a look at the home table helps: BVB scored 34 of the 57 points in Signal Iduna Park at home – and leads in this ranking with two points before the overall first FC Bayern, although the Munich have already played one more game in front of their own annex.

“We have shown very successful football, especially at home,” says Dortmund’s coach Edin Terzic – and thus names a factor that is encouraging from BVB’s point of view. Because four of the six remaining league games will take place in their own stadium. With four wins from these four games, the foundation should be laid for a successful race to catch up in the championship race.

The starting signal for the goal sprint will be fired on Saturday in the top game against Eintracht Frankfurt. This is followed by home games against the midfield teams Wolfsburg, Mönchengladbach and on the 34th matchday against Mainz. In between, BVB only has to play in Bochum and Augsburg, i.e. against two teams that still need points in the fight against relegation.

Kehl makes demands – Can: “Were very disappointed”

Regardless of the respective opponents and the direct competition for the title from Munich, it will first be important for BVB to show better performances again. The disappointing 3:3 in Stuttgart, which felt like a defeat, was still echoing this week – and led to BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl not only offensively expressing his desire for the title, but also making clear demands on the Dortmund team in terms of dedication, commitment and a sense of responsibility.

“We talked a lot this week. We were very disappointed, but we have to look ahead,” says defensive all-rounder Emre Can, who could be used again in the sixth position against Frankfurt and told Dortmund club TV of an intensive Training week reports: “There were a bit tougher duels than in the weeks before, but that’s part of it. We have to get the necessary toughness for the games. It will be intense against Eintracht. We want to win, but we mustn’t tense up either.”

Can also builds on the home advantage – but sees himself and his teammates as a duty: “We have to kindle the fire in the ranks on the pitch.” BVB has shown how this can work several times in the past. As a reminder, a look back at last Saturday could also help: the Stuttgart team managed this feat when they were outnumbered – against BVB.
