Erik ten Hag is not happy with the way Manchester United gave away a lead against competitor Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. His team led 0-2 at halftime and drew 2-2.
“We have the worst schedule, but you have to deal with that. You can’t use it as an excuse. We’ve had enough recovery time, so the players should have been ready. But they weren’t,” said Ten Hag.
Four days earlier, United had played a further 120 minutes against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup semi-finals. Against Tottenham, his players lacked sharpness, Ten Hag thought.
“We thought 90 percent was enough. As a result, we often lost the ball. And if you are not positioned well, you will conced goals. After the break we were very inaccurate. In the end we have to be happy with a point.”
According to the former coach of Ajax, his players should be aware that they play for a big club. “I know they are not robots and we have a busy schedule, but as Manchester United we cannot accept this.”
United’s next game is Sunday, when Aston Villa visit. Four days later, Brighton will be played again in the Premier League. United are fourth, which is good for Champions League football at the end of the season.
