Sub-20 Dominican with high rating in friendly against Brazil

SANTO DOMINGO.- The U-20 Selection of the Dominican Republic maintained a strong commitment against its Brazilian counterpart at the El Chapín Stadium in the town of Jerez de la Frontera – Spain, a match that the Amazonian team won with a tight score 1-0 this Wednesday. This was the first of three duels that the Dominican team will hold in the final phase of their preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina 2023.

The national cast stood up in a great way against the Amazonians, who were surprised by the great Dominican collective performance and which led to parity at the end of the first half.

The only goal of the match came after 70 minutes through a header from Matheus Nascimento.

“Despite the result, this game against Brazil leaves us with very good feelings, I think we deserved a little more than the 1-0, although we lacked a little bit of holding the crosses to the far post that they produced since we closed the interior corridors well and that’s where it got away from us”, commented the national DT Walter Benítez at the end of the game.

The national coach appreciated the attitude of the players, “the last 20 minutes we played one on one, getting the ball clean from behind, touching and arriving, we ended up playing on their pitch despite the pressure they put on us after the goal”.

“There was a lot of wear and tear, the boys ran a lot, that was the message, to fight the game and I think we competed very well against such a great rival as Brazil.”

“Then we will review the video to do the analysis and focus on what we have to work on, but the group is doing very well, with good spirits, discipline and thinking about moving forward,” added Benítez.
