SU Annen: World Cup ticket for heavyweight Jonas Schreiber

Witten.
The national judo coach has nominated Jonas Schreiber (SU Annen) for the World Championships in Qatar. Why this is not only having a positive effect on the club.

Good news for judo ace Jonas Schreiber: The heavyweight of the Sport-Union Other has now been nominated by national coach Pedro Guedes for the World Cup from May 7th to 14th in Doha (Qatar).

“It’s a great thing for Jonas and our entire club. It wasn’t really to be expected, even if I had hoped for him,” said Marcel Haupt, one of the SUA trainers. The 22-year-old Schreiber will also be on the mat in the heavyweight division in Qatar, as will his Hamburg selection colleague Losseni Koné. A total of nine men and eight women have been nominated for next month’s title fights.

Annens Jonas Schreiber recommended himself with silver in Rome

“Jonas absolutely deserved it. In the past tournaments he has definitely convinced,” said Haupt. In addition, Annener, who finished fifth in the U-23 European Championship last year and won silver this year at the European Open in Rome, only narrowly lost twice in the Bundesliga fight against the Dutchman Jelle Snippe from Bottrop, who recently won the Grand Slam in Antalya, Turkey.

“A good draw at the World Cup means a lot for Jonas. You can see how tight it is in the international elite,” says Marcel Haupt. The downside of the medal in terms of nomination: Jonas Schreiber will no longer play for SU Annen in the Bundesliga until the World Cup, including the home fight against KSC Asahi Spremberg on Saturday.
