After the first baseball league has been active since the beginning of April, the softball league will also start the new season next weekend. On the first day of the game, the protagonists of last year between the Bonn Capitals and Wesseling Vermins meet. The Capitals are starting the season as defending champions for the first time after defeating the Vermins in the finals last year. Wesseling then won the German Softball Cup.

For the first time since 2012, twelve teams will take part in the Softball Bundesliga. In addition to the Bonn Capitals and Wesseling Vermins, the Cologne Cardinals, Hamburg Knights, Neunkirchen Nightmares and Ratingen Goose Necks play in the north, while the Freising Grizzlies, Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg, Karlsruhe Cougars, Stuttgart Reds, Tübingen Hawks play in the south, and again promoted and record champions Mannheim tornadoes.

In both groups, a first and second round is completed in the regular season. This is followed by the quarterfinals and semifinals in the best-of-3 format in the play-offs. Best-of-5 will be played in the final. The first three rounds of the Deutschlandpokal Softball take place parallel to the play-offs. The Final Four of the German Cup will follow in Neunkirchen on September 30th and October 1st.

In addition to the summit meeting in Bonn’s Rheinaue between the Capitals and Vermins, the Cologne Cardinals will also meet the Neunkirchen Nightmares on the first day of play in the north. In the south, the Mannheim Tornados will host the Stuttgart Reds on the first day of the game.
