San Martín del Rey Aurelio hosts this afternoon, at 7:30 p.m., at the Municipal Theater, the celebration of the 8th Meeting with Sport, a gala in which the Municipal Board distinguishes 54 athletes and nine teams in a total of sixteen sports disciplines.
In this annual event, prizes will be awarded to the athletes who achieved a podium finish last year in any of the competitions at the regional, national or international level and to the teams that rose in category; being represented in this meeting athletes from the modalities of athletics, karate, judo, motor racing, cycling, Brazilian jiu jitsu, archery, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, spearfishing, Olympic shooting, bowling, basketball, swimming, table tennis and soccer.
Led by the journalist Carmen Liedo, the awards ceremony will be animated with a dance show from the NONAE studio and sports exhibitions by the gymnast Emma Fernández and the Shotokan Nalón karate and budo association, as well as some surprises.
The special mention of two greats of martial arts will undoubtedly be one of the most emotional moments. This distinction will be received posthumously by Fernando Fernández Fernández, 6th DAN national master of Judo, a native of El Entrego, who made sport a way of life that earned him multiple distinctions and an excellent record that reached the top in 2009, with the awarding of the highest national distinction to sport, the “Gold Medal for Sports Merit”.
Deserved recognition also goes to José Ramón Huidobro, awarded in 2022 with the 8th DAN of the Royal Spanish Karate Federation, in recognition of his entire professional career dedicated to teaching martial arts, also giving training courses throughout the Spanish geography and abroad, and his work as a technical advisor, as well as the publication of books.
With this eighth Meeting with Sport, San Martín values the tenacity of people who dedicate part of their lives to sport.
“We give visibility to the sport that is practiced in San Martín del Rey Aurelio and we publicly recognize the effort and brilliant trajectories of the athletes of the council and, by extension, of the clubs and the coaches and coaches who are behind them day by day. day”, according to officials of the Municipal Sports Board.
