Erling Haaland equaled the record for most goals in a Premier League season of 38 matches on Saturday. The Manchester City striker scored twice against Leicester City and is therefore level with Mohamed Salah, who scored 32 times for Liverpool in the 2017/2018 season.
The game at the Etihad Stadium is still ongoing. John Stones opened the score, after which Haaland made his mark. First, the attacker scored from the penalty spot, after which he signed for the 3-0 after good preparatory work by Kevin De Bruyne. Haaland was substituted at half-time.
Due to the hits, the Norwegian striker passes Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suárez. The attackers scored 31 goals in a Premier League season for Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.
Andy Cole (1993/1994) and Alan Shearer (1994/1995) previously scored 34 goals in a season, but at the time a season in the Premier League consisted of 42 games.
After the duel with Leicester City, Manchester City will play eight more games in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s team is currently second behind Arsenal. The leader will visit West Ham United on Sunday.
