Scholes Condemns 2 MU Players, But Not Maguire

Manchester United were kicked out of the Europa League after being beaten by Sevilla. With MU appearing full of mistakes, there are two names criticized by Paul Scholes.

MU was eliminated after losing 2-5 on aggregate to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals. They lost 0-3 on a trip to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Friday (21/4/2023) early morning WIB, in the second leg.

‘Red Devils’ appear under pressure from the host. There were two fatal mistakes that led to the opponent’s goal, the first was David de Gea’s short pass to Harry Maguire which was snatched by the opponent and scored by Youssef En-Nesyri.

Then De Gea made a mistake when trying to clear a long ball from Sevilla. The ball was released and completed by En-Nesyri.

Sevilla made Loic Bade’s second goal from a corner, which also contributed to MU’s bad defense. Throughout the match MU faced six direct threats from opponents while only having three opportunities on target.

MU legendary midfielder Paul Scholes highlighted two names. One of them is Jadon Sancho, who played as a starter but didn’t look ready for the pressure from the hosts.

“During the warm-up we spoke highly of the crowd and said how aggressive and hot the atmosphere was. When the United players see and hear that they need to go in the locker room and think ‘I have to be ready for this and the first touch has to be okay’,” Scholes told me bt sports quoted Metro.

“You could see Jadon Sancho in the first five minutes, the ball went off him three times, bad pass too. I’m a big fan of this kid, but he should be excited and ready,” he added.

The second name is David de Gea. Even though Maguire was criticized a lot because his mistake resulted in the opponent taking the ball for the first goal, Scholes thinks that De Gea should have been able to see the situation better.

“The bait from David de Gea really wasn’t great. He needed to throw the ball away, secure his line,” continued Scholes.

“I can only think of one centre-back in the world who would want a pass in that position and be able to take it. And that’s not Harry Maguire.”

“David can see it, he can see Maguire has three players surrounding him and he is not comfortable in that position.”
