Newell’s beat Racing 1-0 in a match played tonight at the Cilindro de Avellaneda, valid for the eleventh day of the Professional Soccer League.

The “Lepra” goal was scored by the Paraguayan defender Víctor Gustavo Velázquez at minute 21 of the second stage.

The development of the game during the first minutes favored Racing, but little by little the visit firmed up in defense, controlled the midfield and came out quickly on the counterattack to take advantage of the speed of their attackers.

The team led by coach Fernando Gago, for their part, failed to handle the ball, it was difficult for them to surprise from the sides and they lacked offensive power during the first quarter of an hour.

The first clear play of danger was made by “Leprosy”, which continued to be more vertical and offensive than its rival, through an advance by Marcos Portillo, who could not define correctly before the exit and subsequent cover by goalkeeper Gabriel Arias.

The rest of the first stage continued in the same way, with the most solid visit since the game and against those from Avellaneda who could not find their way and seemed disconcerted.

In the second half the game was even, with Racing trying a little more, taking the lead in the field, but it was not deep or dangerous, except for a free kick from Paraguayan Matias Rojas that goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos sent to the corner .

The “Leprosy” did not despair, he was fine with the ball every time he had it (less than during the first half) and again appealed to the counterattack as an offensive card.

At minute 21 and after a corner from the left, the Paraguayan defender Vélazquez opened the “palomita” marker after the ball passed through the entire local area.

The goal in favor gave Rosario more peace of mind, who despite the partial victory continued to press and defend solidly, while Racing was forced to go out looking for an equalizer, but did not have the necessary ideas to achieve it and left a pale image in the prelude to next Sunday’s classic against Independiente.

On the next day (12th) Racing will visit “Red” at the Ricardo Bochini stadium, while Newell’s will receive the leader River at the Coloso Marcelo Bielsa.
