Quentin Halys advances to Madrid Masters 1000 second round after win over Alexei Popyrin

A little over a week after his elimination in the first round of the Munich tournament, Quentin Halys recovered on Wednesday by dominating Alexei Popyrin (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) for his entry into the running at the Masters 1000 from Madrid.

In the first set, the ATP No. 66 was immediately broken without ever being able to pick up. Popyrin won the set on his serve thanks to a shutout (6-4). The second act was that of Halys. This time, the Frenchman converted his break point and picked up a set everywhere without giving up his serve (6-4). In the last round, he reiterated this situation by breaking his opponent during the last game, despite two unconverted match points (6-4).

In the second round, Halys will face Roberto Bautista-Agut on Friday.
