Deadline ends on Monday

In the Second Basketball Bundesliga, the PS Karlsruhe Lions have been unstoppable for weeks. The club is seriously considering promotion and has now submitted the relevant documents.

The PS Karlsruhe Lions’ dream of promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) is not only alive on the floor, where the second division professionals have just celebrated their tenth win in a row. The club is also working hard away from the field to be prepared in the event of promotion.

According to information from this editorial team, the Lions also submitted a license application for the BBL on Monday in good time. It had to explain as plausibly as possible how the club intends to raise the minimum budget of three million euros and in which hall it should be played. Concrete numbers are not required in the first step.

The question of the halls is probably the most shaky point in the documents sent on Monday, since it is now unclear whether the Lions could possibly go to the Europahallen, which will then be completely renovated, by the end of the year. The current home ground, the Lina-Radke-Halle in Karlsruhe, is too small for the first division with 1,500 seats. A minimum capacity of 3,000 spectators is required there.

Head coach Aleksandar Scepanovic’s team is one of the favorites in the upcoming play-offs, which begin with the quarter-finals on the first weekend in May, given the high they have soared in recent weeks with Vechta and Tübingen. The two finalists acquire the sporting promotion rights.
