Piacenza baseball wins the De Benedetti memorial

Piacenza also beat Ares on the second day of the De Benedetti Memorial and thus won the home tournament for the fifth time in twenty-five editions. After Poviglio (who surrendered 12-9 on Saturday) even Ares had little power against the red and white who, however, found a tenacious opponent on their way, capable of keeping the score in the balance at least until the fifth inning. In a nutshell, it could be ruled that the Lombards played an inning, the second with 6 points scored, while the hosts played the entire game. At 2-0 in the second attack (base for Schiavoni, doubles by Minoia and singles by Marelli) everything seemed easy but the 6 opponent points at the field change made everything more difficult. From that moment Marenghi’s team began to weave its web by undertaking a slow but constant comeback. Except that in the 4th, points arrived for each attack and after 5 innings the partial saw the guests still ahead (7-5) but with Piacenza decisively in the match. In the central phase many bases for balls arrived from the Milanese mountain and at the right moment the two consecutive doubles by Cufrè and Schiavoni. The definitive acceleration in the last two attacks: in the 6th three points arrive without the need for valid hits (three hits and two bases) while the 3 in the 7th were propitiated by the singles of Marelli and Gibson, accompanied by the usual control problems of the bull -pen dell’Ares. And so, step by step, Piacenza built the final 11-8 which gave him the trophy. The winning pitcher was Lorenzo Sanna, capable of an almost flawless relief. The place of honor in the triangle was the prerogative of Poviglio who had defeated Ares 1-0 in the morning.
