The dream of promotion to A2 is anything but hidden. The new season of Piacenza Baseball will start on Sunday with great ambitions, which will debut at the “De Benedetti” against Fossano. In the red and white house, the aim is immediately to play a leading role: coaches are convinced of this Gianluca Marenghi and the captain Simone Minoiawho told “Zona Sport” what they expect from this championship.
“Let’s say we’ve been doing it for a couple of seasons since we reached the playoffs last year – said Marenghi – and that’s still the first goal. We have integrated the squad given that in past years there have been several injuries, with many young players who have brought a breath of enthusiasm. Our group will be very tough, they will all be candidates to fight for a place in the playoffs even if I think that besides us the most popular are Milan and Parma. The first match against Fossano will immediately be a good test to calibrate the last details”.
The captain will therefore once again be Minoia, for the second consecutive year, “and a source of pride for me because I’ve been playing in this team since I was eight years old, obviously I feel the responsibility of having to lead a group made up of worthy athletes. Where can we get? We started the winter preparation very early and with good results, our minimum goal remains the playoffs, possibly obtaining the best possible position. After Fossano we will have the away match in Alghero, we want to make up for the defeat last season even if it will be on a very difficult field”.
Guest of the program hosted by Marcello Tassi also the ski mountaineering enthusiast Flavio Saltarelli, who at 60 has just faced the tremendous “Everesting”. “One of my sins of senility – she said jokingly – accomplished together with three other friends, is covering the difference in altitude that goes from the sea to the top of Everest, 8,848 meters without sleeping. For me it was a great experience despite having just had Covid, I stopped at 7,100 meters but I can be satisfied. Ski mountaineering is a great passion of mine, in fact I also hold the role of consultant for the Italian national team”.
Closing program dedicated to fin swimming with Calypso Piacenza, which is confirming its excellent levels also this season. The coach guides the athletes Umberto Raimondi, words with honey for his boys “because in the Italian category and in the absolute they have obtained several victories, thanks to a relatively young team even if we still lack the classic individual top athlete. Finswimming is a discipline on the rise, in fact we had the honor of participating in this year’s World Cup which registered the record number of athletes”. Among the most promising athletes there is Matthias Bazzoniwho divides himself between Calypso and traditional swimming à la Nino: “Two very different disciplines, in finswimming the experience relating to the use of fins counts much more”.
