Peru projects a bigger port than Chancay |

When the port of Chancay is completed it will be the largest in the region. But the Government of Peru is already projecting another port facility more colossal than this one.

It is about the reactivation of Puerto Corío, in the Arequipa region, according to the president of the National Port Authority (APN) of Peru, Manuel Hinojosa.

It is a project that has been talked about for 20 years, but now it is closer to becoming something tangible.

In June 2022, the Peruvian Ministry of Transport gave a first boost by announcing the signing of an agreement with the Regional Government of Arequipa to speed up the performance of technical studies. And Congress declared the initiative late last year to be in the “national interest.”

Hinojosa’s statements were made during his participation as a panelist at the XXX Latin American Congress of Ports of the American Association of Port Authorities.

There he highlighted that the regional government, the district mayor and the mayors of the area have come together to carry out the project. But the members of the Peruvian Chamber of Commerce are also rowing.
