Olympic Games: Mexicans approach Paris 2024

Mexican athletes are achieving the results that encourage them to obtain the Olympic ticket

2023 seems to be a defining year for the various Mexican athletes in their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and after this past weekend the outlook looks positive, after the activity that some athletes had, same as they managed to get on the podium of their respective disciplines such as Daniela Gaxiola, Yuli Verdugo and Jessica Salazar in track cycling; and on the other hand, Alejandra Valencia, Ángela Ruiz and Aída Román in archery.

In the individual part, Daniela Gaxiola was also able to get a medal by finishing third, after beating the Belgian Nicky Degrendele setting a lap in 11.041 seconds, with the opportunity to be among the best in track cycling and get closer to qualifying for Paris.

However, these have not been the only achievements of the national representatives, as they also Miguel de Lara Ojeda managed to be the first swimmer to get his ticket to the next Olympic event by reaching a time of 2:09.60 in the 200-meter breaststroke test. Knowing the history that Mexico has in this discipline within the Olympic Games, De Lara Ojeda’s is a true triumph.

Another discipline in which Mexico has excelled at the Olympic level is weightlifting, and precisely this year the Pan American Championship of the specialty was held, in which Mexican weightlifters filled the country with pride with a total of 32 medals and each being closer to next year’s summer fair.

The next great challenge for athletes in this discipline will be from June 2 to 12 of this year with the Grand Prix of Havana, Cuba, which will give points in the Olympic ranking and with which Mexicans will be able to get closer and closer to Paris.

This year, also in pentathlon and triathlon, Mexican athletes have reaped very important victories to score points and get closer to the Olympic Games. The first was from the young Sofía Rodríguez who achieved bronze in the Continental Cup held in the United States with a time of 56:33.

Also, remember to Mariana Arceo and Manuel Padilla with their formidable participation in the Modern Pentathlon World Cup that was held in Turkey, reaching second place in the category of relay teams with a mark of 1,341 points. Adding that, Arceo also won bronze in the individual category of said tournament and they will look for more conquests next week in the World Cup in Hungary.
