OHL recorded a well-deserved 3-2 win against Standard for its own audience. Mission accomplished, but that was not enough for a place in the top 8. Standard can also whistle for its ticket for the Champions League play-offs.

OHL – Standard in a nutshell:

  • Key moment: A goal with a big bow around it. Bokadi completely lost sight of Opoku in his back and saw the striker score the opening goal from a sharp angle.
  • Man of the match: Thorsteinsson’s sights were sharp tonight. The Icelandic top scorer of OHL only needed a few minutes to score 2 times and count Standard completely out.
  • Remarkable: Both teams miss their intended goal. Standard hoped to qualify for the Champions play-offs and OHL in turn wanted to join the top-8. However, both Standard and Leuven are left empty-handed.

Both teams knew what they had to do. After all, OHL and Standard still played for the marbles. The home team still had a water chance at the Europe play-offs and Standard also hoped for a miracle to get that last Champions play-off ticket.

There were not many great opportunities in the first half. Standard was able to jab a few times from a distance, but goalkeeper Cojocaru didn’t have much trouble with that. With a sigh of peace, Opoku broke the match completely open. The Ghanaian was able to take advantage of Bokadi’s questionable intervention and took a good shot from a sharp angle. The Rouches therefore went into the dressing rooms with concern.

Thorsteinsson helped his team to victory with 2 goals.

Standard started the second half most eagerly and hung the signs right after the break. Of all people, Bokadi, who had previously scored the opening goal, kicked the ball against the ropes after a messy phase. But the Rouches could not enjoy that equalizer for a very long time. Because not much later, Thorsteinsson brought OHL back into the lead from the spot.

And the Icelander was clearly in his element, because a few minutes later Bodart had to admit defeat for the third time. Standard lay exhausted against the canvas. In the ultimate slot, the Rouches made the connection goal via Melegoni, but it was too late to make OHL blush.

Despite an excellent match, the season is therefore over for OHL. Standard will soon be allowed to work in the Europe play-offs as a consolation prize.

  1. end, 8:28 pm. D’Hondt blows his whistle. OHL does what it should and wins 3-2 against Standard. It remains to be seen what will happen in the other matches, but the team from Leuven will probably miss out on a ticket for the Europe play-offs. .
