WHAT HAPPENED?
Chelsea was forced to return to searching for a new manager and Frank Lampard, who served 13 years The Blues as a player, have answered their SOS signal to become caretaker coach.
Graham Potter was sacked from the Stamford Bridge hot seat after just 31 games in charge of Chelsea. So far, no permanent successor has been appointed by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, although Chelsea are widely reported to be closing in on the likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann.
THE SITUATION:
This is an opportunity for Lampard to return to coaching Chelsea after being sacked by his former club two years ago. The 44-year-old was sacked in January 2021 after amassing 44 wins from 84 matches and was also sacked by Everton in January this year after 12 months at Goodison Park.

Owner duo Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said in a statement on the club’s official website: “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a member of the Premier League Hall of Fame and a legend at this club. Along the way we have undergone an in-depth and thorough process. According to Sportsmail, Lampard has returned to Cobham this Thursday (6/4) to lead the first training session in his second tenure. He was joined by fellow Chelsea legend Ashley Cole, as well as Joe Edwards, who was on his coaching staff during his first spell The Blues.

Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge and will face the situation of Chelsea who sit 11th in the Premier League and must manage a squad which in the last two transfer windows has seen new players worth more than £600 million.
