NFL – Aaron Rodgers leaves the Green Bay Packers for the New York Jets

An icon changes sides. NFL star Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP, will leave the Packers, who he led to the Super Bowl in 2011, to join the Jets, as part of a major player swap, the two franchises announced Monday. Green Bay and New York executives are due to initial the contracts on Tuesday, per the verbal agreement, they said.

“I have a lot of respect for Aaron and for the person he is. He has done so much for this club,” said general manager Brian Gutekunst. “He will always be a Packer, one of the best to ever play for this team. We will miss him. You don’t see players like him often.”he added.

Rodgers played 18 seasons for Green Bay, peaking in 2011 when he won the league title and was Super Bowl MVP in a 31-25 win over Pittsburgh.

Four times named best player of the season in 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021, he led the Packers in the play-offs 11 times in 15 exercises where he started (during the first three, he played very little because he was Brett Favre’s replacement). Rodgers will try to revive the Jets, who have not reached the play-offs since 2010.
