Next cancellation! Djokovic is also absent from the Masters in Madrid

The ATP 1000 event in Madrid has to do without the two top stars Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian world number one suffers from pain in his right elbow. After missing the US tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami due to his lack of a corona vaccination, Djokovic has not yet really got going on clay.

In Monte Carlo, Djokovic lost to Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 16, this week in Banja Luka in the quarterfinals to his compatriot Dusan Lajovic.

Roland Garros is the clear goal

Djokovic recently admitted his right elbow was ‘not in ideal shape’ as he lost to Lorenzo Musetti in Monte Carlo with his arm bandaged.

“I hope that I’ll be in top form by Roland Garros. I want to play my best tennis there,” said Djokovic earlier this week.

Interesting Fact: The last tournament where both Novak Djokovic (World No. 1) and Carlos Alcaraz (2nd) could be found in the same grid was the Masters tournament in Paris-Bercy, in October 2022.

The last time that neither of the two retired from the event due to injury even dates back to July 2022, when “Nole” secured his seventh Wimbledon title.

Now he doesn’t have much time left until the start of the sand highlight in Paris on May 28th, where Djokovic wants to become the sole record holder with his 23rd Grand Slam title. 14-time Roland Garros champion Nadal is doubtful for the Paris trip due to an ongoing injury.
