NBA: the Grizzlies force the holding of a 6th game with a win against the Lakers

The Memphis Grizzlies got back to winning ways in front of their fans with a 116-99 victory in Game 5 of their series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ja Morant stood up for the Grizzlies to save his team from elimination. The series returns to Los Angeles for Game 6 on Friday.

The Lakers had won the first two clashes of this series disputed in front of their supporters. If a seventh game were to take place, it would be in Memphis on Sunday.

The Grizzlies players set the tone for the game building up a 17-point lead at some point in the second quarter. Their rivals closed the gap, however, and after two downtown shots from D’Angelo Russell early in the third quarter, the Grizzlies’ lead was down to just a single point.

Morant took charge in that moment and helped his team to 33 points to Los Angeles’ 24 in the third quarter. His basket just before the siren was for a 94-76 Grizzlies mark and this new lead held until the end of the game.

Morant scored 31 points and 10 rebounds with seven assists. Desmond Bane stood out for his part with 33 points and 10 rebounds.

Anthony Davis responded offensively for the Lakers with a night of 31 points and 19 rebounds. James had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
