NBA: Lakers add depth with Tristan Thompson and Shaquille Harrison

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers signed two players — including LeBron James’ former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Tristan Thompson — on the final day of the regular season to add depth ahead of the playoffs, according to ESPN.

Thompson joins the Lakers after last playing in 2021-22 with the Chicago Bulls, where he averaged 5.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 23 games. He was a vital part of the Cavaliers as the team reached four straight NBA Finals between 2015 and 2018.

The Lakers also signed Shaquille Harrison, a player focused more on defense. Harrison played for the South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate, this season and averaged 13.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 2.1 steals in 32 matches.

Los Angeles will place guard Davon Reed on waivers to open a roster spot.

The Lakers (42-39) will start Sunday in 7th place in the Western Conference. They could reach sixth and avoid the qualifying tournament with a win over the Utah Jazz and a little help with the other results.
