With an excellent offensive performance from De’Aaron Fox with 24 points, as well as a decisive triple at the end, Sacramento Kings defeated the defending champion Golden State Warriors 114-106 on Monday. With the win, the Kings put their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series 2-0 in their favor.
The Kings closed out the game strongly after the Warriors’ Draymond Green was ejected for a flagrant foul and became the first team to take a 2-0 series lead over the Warriors in the Stephen Curry era. The Warriors will try to get back in the series when they meet Thursday in Game 3 in San Francisco.
The game heated up in the fourth quarter when Green stomped on the chest of Domantas Sabonis with 7:03 to play, leading to an ejection for an intentional violation. During the review, fans in Sacramento chanted derogatory chants towards Green, who goaded them by waving his handsputting a hand to his ear for louder cheers and standing on a chair.
The Warriors fought back to tie the game before the Kings went on a 17-8 winning streak to the madness of a crowd that hadn’t played in the playoffs in 17 years. Fox’s 3-pointer made it 107-101 with 2:17 to play and the Kings were in control at that point. Power forward Domantas Sabonis added 24 points for Sacramento and Malik Monk added 18 off the bench. Curry led the Warriors with 28 points, but was just 3-of-13 on 3-point shooting. as Golden State struggled to get going offensively. The Warriors committed 22 turnovers.
