Sustainable agriculture developed in Mexico With the support of scientific institutions such as the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and its collaborators, positions the country as one of the most relevant voices in the Group of 20 (G20). His successful experiences are replicated in countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America, said Dr. Bram Goeverts.

This was expressed by the director general of CIMMYIT in the framework of the recent G-20 meeting in India, at the Meeting with the main agricultural scientists (#G20MACS), in the city of Varanasi, where he said that the objective was to identify the research priorities that allow accelerating global agricultural development.

Goeverts spointed out that in a world where the climate change reduces food security and small farmers are the ones who suffer the worst impacts, CIMMYT’s vision, seeks to build new and improved solutions to benefit you locally in a changed and changing world.

He said that the work of CIMMYT to build a world with resilient agri-food systems and protect biodiversity, It has a global impact: 70 percent of the wheat and 50 percent of the corn grown in the world derive from genetic materials from this non-profit scientific research center, based in Texcoco.

It has a presence in more than 50 countries and whose practices and technologies developed and promoted benefit more than 18 million farmers around the world.

Dr. Govaerts commented that CIMMYT’s focus is on broad research on climate change adaptation and mitigation. This is climate-focused research to help small farmers adapt to their shocks.
