Mechelen Beach returns to Douaneplein this year. From 20 July to 6 August, everyone can go there for numerous activities and events. The beach volleyball tournament and children’s beach, among other things, will be organized again. In the summer bar you can also enjoy food, drinks and summer tunes.

The Mechelen sandy beach was located on the Grote Markt for many years, but moved to Transit M on Douaneplein for the first time last year. Mechelen Beach will also take place at that location this year. “Following last year’s success, we are continuing the concept unchanged. A square full of sand and palm trees, a nice beach bar, a dash of music and plenty of activities for young and old. That is also Mechelen Beach this year,” says sports and youth alderman Abdrahman Labsir (Vld-Groen-m+).
“Children can go to the play beach where fun attractions and animations take place every day,” says Labsir. “For sports enthusiasts, there will be another large sports beach. Activities such as yoga, beach volleyball, badminton, dance and circus techniques are organized in collaboration with local associations. The beach volleyball tournament is on the program from Thursday 27 to Saturday 30 July. There is a tournament for companies and one for recreational users. You can register from April 20 via the website.”

Those who are less sporty or want to relax after an activity can go to the summer bar. You can eat, drink or loosen your dancing legs. “Thirty trucks full of sand and a large load of plants and decorations transform Douaneplein into one of the nicest summer spots in Mechelen,” says organizer Maarten Fontaine. “After the many positive reactions from last year, we are extra motivated to do even better this year. We are therefore busy setting up a new top edition together with our partners.”
Holiday feeling
The second edition of Mechelen Beach on Transit M will take place from Thursday 20 July to Sunday 6 August. “It will not only be a nice summer bar, but also a place where numerous activities will be set up in collaboration with our youth and sports department. It should give all residents of Mechelen and visitors to our city a wonderful holiday feeling. So in Mechelen you can also enjoy the summer with your feet in the sand,” says Abdrahman Labsir. (svds)
