Mayor Mejía receives a visit from US Assistant Secretary of State Wendy Sherman

Sherman said he was “happy to visit this beautiful city.”

Santo Domingo.- This Wednesday, in the Colon Park of the Colonial City, a meeting was held between the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, and the Undersecretary of State of the United States, Wendy Sherman, who is currently in a work schedule in the country.

According to the State Department, Sherman’s visit to the Dominican Republic focuses on strengthening bilateral relations “with key partners who will also advance our shared interests in advancing democracy, prosperity, and security in our hemisphere.”

On this visit to Santo Domingo, the mayor welcomed him and they took a tour of Parque Colón, where he learned about the founding of the city, as well as the First Cathedral of America.

Sherman said he was “happy to visit this beautiful city.” He also enjoyed the warmth of the citizens who were in the area.

Mejía shared with the Undersecretary of State and the delegation that accompanies her about the initiatives that she has promoted for the city, thanking the State Department and the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic for this meeting.

Alexander Titolo, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, Yerik Pérez, Director of Major League Baseball in the Dominican Republic (MLB), Brigadier General Minoru Matsunaga, Director of Politur, and Elizabeth Mateo, Director of Communications for the City Council, were also present during the tour.
