Even in the Bundesliga evening game against Gladbach, Frankfurt cannot completely stop the negative trend – but at least they scored a late goal. The guests gamble away a tour.

After the sobering draw, none of the professionals seemed satisfied – neither from Eintracht Frankfurt nor from Borussia Mönchengladbach. After the 1: 1 (0: 1) fought late, the Frankfurters only briefly received the applause of the fans, the Gladbachers quickly disappeared into the dressing room.

“Gladbach gets a point with no effort, we had many chances, but unfortunately only scored one goal,” said Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp on Sky. “What it is, I have no idea.”

Vice world champion Kolo Muani (83rd minute) had scored late to equalize for the Hessians, who have now been without a win in seven Bundesliga games, Gladbach had taken the lead through national player Jonas Hofmann (13th). Some lost a lead, others missed a number of chances for more goals. “We were the much stronger team for 90 minutes, in the end we are all disappointed that we didn’t get a threesome again,” said Trapp. Eintracht remains six points ahead of Gladbach.

Frankfurt committed, but without luck in the end

For coach Daniel Farke’s Borussia team, the hoped-for happy ending didn’t materialize after a week with lots of background noise. The club had announced the free transfers of Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini this week and had to moderate the consequences of an interview with the dissatisfied reservist Marvin Friedrich.

Despite the late equalizer and a committed performance with numerous missed opportunities, Frankfurt still has sporting worries. After the draw in front of 50,000 spectators, the Europa League winner has been waiting for a win in the Bundesliga for almost two months. A European Cup qualification in this way is currently getting more difficult with each weekend.

Gladbach fans stopped on arrival

Some Gladbach fans missed the kick-off and game in Frankfurt, which was completely rained on. A train with numerous trailers was stopped on the way to Ginsheim-Gustavsburg at around 4.30 p.m. and checked by the police. The reason for the police measures is an incident in the Bonn area in which the police are investigating serious bodily harm, bodily harm and breach of the peace. This was announced by a police spokesman on request. The use criticized by the Gladbacher Fanhilfe continued during the game.

Gladbach coach Farke brought Hofmann, Julian Weigl and Manu Koné back into the starting eleven. After a turbulent few days away from the field, the direction of the guests quickly became clear: stand low, wait for a counterattack. This worked perfectly for the opening goal. A remarkable combination of all four offensive players put Vice World Champion Marcus Thuram in position. His pass to the middle and Hofmann’s finish to make it 0-1 were only a matter of form.

Unity in many situations without self-confidence

Eintracht noticed the difficult circumstances right from the start. After almost two months without a league win, there was a lack of self-confidence in many situations. Without the missing Mario Götze, Philipp Max and Evan Ndicka, there was also a lack of individual quality. Mainly because the professionals who joined the team around Daichi Kamada didn’t particularly excel. Japan international Kamada, whose departure was confirmed this week in the summer, has been out of shape for weeks after an outstanding first half of the season.

The hosts struggled and had their scenes. Gladbach’s keeper Jonas Omlin responded excellently to a flick from Djibril Sow (23′), later Nico Elvedi almost scored an own goal in a curious ping-pong situation. Captain Sebastian Rode (41st and 45th) and top striker Randal Kolo Muani (44th) also had their degrees, but mostly they went over the goal or ended up in Omlin’s arms.

After the break, Frankfurt significantly increased the pressure. Substitute junior Dina Ebimbe took a measurement just outside the penalty area, but Omlin defused it again. A side kick from Kolo Muani after a corner was also unsuccessful. Frankfurt was now clearly the more active team. When Kolo Muani (75th) hit the post with a low shot, even the goal music had already started. Shortly before the end, the Frankfurt fans were allowed to cheer.
