Marc Marquez also absent at the United States MotoGP

Marc Marquez will certainly be absent at the United States MotoGP as well. Repsol Honda ensures that Marquez wants to focus on recovering from his injury first.

Marc Marquez suffered a fractured hand injury after the Portugal MotoGP. He then underwent surgery to restore it.

The operation kept him out of the Argentina MotoGP in the second series. Further examination later revealed that the injury had not fully recovered to appear in the United States MotoGP this weekend.

“Following the last CAT scan, Marc Marquez and his medical team led by Dr. Ignacio Roger de Ona, at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, have confirmed that his first metacarpal is still recovering,” said an official Repsol Honda statement.

“After heated discussions with the Repsol Honda Team and HRC, all parties involved have opted to allow the injury to fully heal first and avoid unnecessary risks.”

Marc Marquez is also still awaiting a Double Long Lap penalty, for his incident with Miguel Oliveira at the Portuguese MotoGP. At first the penalty would expire following Marquez’s absence in Argentina, but MotoGP changed the validity period until Marquez recovered and could race again.

The 30-year-old racer has only collected seven points, finishing third in the Portugal MotoGP Sprint Race.
