Regarding the implementation of one of the new regulations that Major League Baseball (MLB) has implemented for the 2023 season, it was Padres third baseman Manny Machado who struck out for violating time.

The situation is confusing, but Machado was heavily penalized for the strikeout due to being late in getting ready to catch the pitch from the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher. The discussion that sparked, with team manager Phil Nevin involved, the expulsion in just the first inning for one of the stars of the Californians.
