Llanera exalts women’s sports in a brilliant gala

This is how the archery shooter Luis Carlos Puerta Martínez thanked, on behalf of all the distinguished ones, the awards of the Sports Gala that was held this Friday at the Posada municipal sports center, with a full audience.

The ceremony, presented by the journalist Marco Rodríguez, recognized the work and merits obtained by local athletes with the skater Paola García, as the best absolute athlete in the category of over 20 years of age, and the badminton player Belén Soto, among the minors. of that age, demonstrating the level of the females. In entities, the best promotion is Club Llanera Atletismo, while Unión Deportiva Llanera received the award for best club.

“We want to congratulate all the Llanerense athletes, those who are here awarded and those who play sports and carry the name of the council outside,” said the mayor, Gerardo Sanz, who dedicated a few words to the winners. The alderman also regretted not being able to celebrate the ceremony in the Cuno Corquera park, as planned, due to the risk of rain.

Sanz also assessed that “there is an increase in enthusiasm and optimism at the individual level of our athletes, but also, very importantly, it is that collective sport has increased.” “We see that there are many clubs working responsibly so that there is still a youth squad in Llanera and we are also noticing an increase in the celebration of sports-related activities in the municipality,” he added.

During the gala, in addition to the absolute distinctions, several prizes were awarded to the best athletes over the age of twenty in various disciplines. They are the rugby player Águeda Pis Arnaiz, the archery shooter Luis Carlos Puerta Martínez and the motorist Alejandro Iglesias Llana.

As for those under 20 years of age, the awards went to Celia Álvarez Rodríguez, in athletics; Olaya Vázquez García, from show jumping; Laura Nuño Carrero, from dressage horse riding: Santiago Iglesias Assolari, from motorcycling; Hugo Barba Álvarez, from karate; Pelayo Bermúdez González, from chess, and Esther García Terente, from basketball, who was unable to attend because she was in the United States and sent a nice thank you video.

The Llanera Sports Gala also recognized the career of rugby player Guillermo Turiel and dressage rider Fernando Fernández Rodríguez as the best adapted athletes. The award for the most outstanding commercial entity was taken by the restaurant La Campana, by sponsoring AllRugby Llanera, the Unión Deportiva Llanera, as well as other sporting events.

The ceremony ended with a special mention to three athletes from the Tai Jitsu discipline, Nerea Sanz Cienfuegos, Oriol Sanz Cienfuegos and Valeria Fuente Blanco, who could not attend because they were in the Spanish Championship. It was the case of some other winners, but they all had colleagues who collected the award for them.
