LIV: First victory over LIV for Talor Gooch, at the Adelaide tournament

Leading by 10 strokes heading into the final round, American Talor Gooch struggled overnight Saturday-Sunday but held on for his first victory on the LIV golf circuit, at the ‘Adelaide.

After giving up two cards of 62 in the first two rounds, Gooch had to settle for a score of 73 in the third and final round. He saw his lead dwindle to just three strokes at the end of the tournament, which he finished with a cumulative 19 under par.

Anirban Lahiri came closest to Gooch with a final round of 65, which allowed him to finish the tournament in second place, three strokes behind Gooch.

Patrick Reed (65), Cameron Smith (66), Cameron Tringale (67) and Pat Perez (67) then follow in third place with a cumulative 15 under par, five strokes behind the winner.

Gooch’s work day seemed difficult in the middle of the day. After not committing any bogeys in the first two rounds, Gooch suffered a soft patch between the 7th and 10th holes, committing two bogeys as well as a double bogey.

Gooch, however, limited the damage with birdies on the 11th and then the 13th hole, to race to victory.

Dustin Johnson (67) finished the tournament ranked 10th, while Phil Mickelson (69) tied for 11th along with nine other golfers.

The tag team portion of the tournament was won by the 4Aces, led by DJ, Perez, Reed and Peter Uihlein (66).

The next LIV golf tournament will take place next week in Singapore.
