LaLiga president Javier Tebas wants Barcelona to bring Lionel Messi back. However, Los Cules must be healthy financially first.
Messi’s future is still being speculated at this time after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires next summer. There are no signs that it will be extended even though PSG has made various efforts.
Because Messi still wants to return to Barcelona and retire at the club that made his name. Like tit for tat, Barcelona is also preparing plans for the transfer.
However, the plan was met with opposition from LaLiga as the competition operator. Because Barcelona is still having problems with finances so they can’t just bring in players as they please.
Barcelona even still have to find income of around 200 million euros this summer, in order to hook new players. Another option is to cut payroll expenses.
So, bringing in Messi is certainly not easy because the player’s salary reaches more than 30 million euros per year. After his statement in March, Tebas actually softened regarding the Messi issue.
Tebas believes Barcelona can sign Messi as long as the finances are right this summer.
“As of today it is impossible, but there is still a lot of time left (to recruit Messi). We are waiting for their financial plans for next season,” Tebas told ESPN.
“I hope they can sign Messi, but of course we’re not going to change the rules just for Messi’s sake. Barcelona can spend as long as they sell players.”
“We hope so because I am a Messi fan and I want him to play in our league. But we don’t want to change the rules. It’s complicated, but I think they can do it.”
