JUDO – Silvestre wins gold and qualifies for the Central American and Caribbean Games

The Dominican Republic obtained a gold, three silver and a pair of bronze medals in the judo qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games held on Thursday at the Volleyball Pavilion of the Olympic Center with the support of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI). ).

The championship program will continue this Saturday and Sunday with the Pan American Open that will distribute points for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Eiraima Silvestre won the gold by defeating the Cuban Nairelis Fuente, from Cuba, in the -78 kilos category.

The bronze of the specialty was in the hands of Sairy Colón, from Puerto Rico. The silver medals for the Dominican Republic were won by Estefanía Soriano (-48 kilos), Ana Rosa (-57 kilos), and Ariel Lorenzo, in -100 kilos. Katherine Otaño (-63 kilos) and José Nova (over 100 kilos) each won bronze medals.

“I stayed focused, doing my job and I took advantage of the best moment to do the technique,” ​​Silvestre said shortly after receiving the medal that qualified her for the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador 2023.

Silvestre, who jumped for lo on his return to competition after seven months of inactivity due to a right elbow injury and who had to undergo surgery, got the good result in the judo qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games .

The representation of Cuba dominated the qualifier with a total of 10 gold, two silver and two bronze medals, while Venezuela obtained one gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Jamaica won one gold and three bronze medals, while Mexico won three silver and six bronze medals, while Colombia won three bronze medals.

In other results at the end of the day, the Venezuelan Amarantha Urdaneta won gold in more than 78 kilos. The Cuban Idalis Ortiz, Olympic, Pan American, Central American and world medalist, kept the silver by not appearing in the final. The Puerto Rican Ettelimay Ramos achieved bronze.

In -81 kilos, Jorge Martínez won gold, followed by Jonhelius Patete, from Venezuela. The bronze was shared by Alexis Harrison, from Panama, and the Cuban Maikel McKencie.
