. For Edorta Rahm, father of the Augusta Masters winner, it was a week of passion. He lived with his son every hole of every round as the weather changed from cold, windy and rainy to muggy and sunny. And he enjoyed a unique moment, just after the last hit. “Having as a father the opportunity to jump onto the field and hug your son who has just won is very exciting,” he recounted in a conversation with EL CORREO. One of those hugs that you feel from head to toe and that will remain on the family hard drive. “That moment was amazing, so exciting,” he emphasizes. “I wanted to be there with Jon, with Kelley (his wife), with Adam (his caddy) … Share with them that unique moment in Augusta.”

Throughout the tournament, Jon Rahm has had the support and closeness of his father. And he thanked her from the lectern after collecting the award and before the microphones of the world press: «Aita, thank goodness you came… Ufff, if you don’t come…». The Barrika golfer also had goosebumps. Augusta is not the most comfortable field for visitors accompanying players. “But it was clear to me that I had to go,” says Edorta Rahm. And so she was able to see her son “very focused” from the beginning of the tournament. “I noticed that spiritual calm that he also had when he won the US Open in 2021. He seemed calm and focused, and that’s why I saw clearly that he could win in this tournament,” he says.

Another of the keys to Jon Rahm’s triumph in Augusta was, according to his father, the “ability to adapt to changing conditions” of the tournament. A storm fell on the course, it rained, the wind lashed… the competition suffered several postponements, then the heat hit… In that meteorological whirlwind, the Biscayan golfer remained impassive. Iron hand against rivals who trembled victims of altitude sickness that accompanies the proximity of success.

“Knowing how to adapt was decisive,” says Edorta Rahm, a privileged witness to her son’s success. The Barrika golfer showed his poise in the final rounds and had the privilege of reaching the 18th hole of the last round as a great dominator. There he certified his triumph and launched a shout into the air. Edorta jumped into the field to hug his son, to give him one of those hugs that are not forgotten.
