“It is constantly full of scouts who come to see it”

Santiago Giménez often came in as a substitute before the winter break, but is now the undisputed first striker of Feyenoord. According to Arne Slot, this is mainly due to the increased stamina of the Mexican and there was always confidence in his qualities.

“Where Giménez stands is still pretty much the same in many areas. If Santiago came in the last half hour in the past, he was also just threatening, he scored goals and he was dangerous. It’s not like you thought half a year ago when you saw him come in: what are we going to do with that? The big difference is that he can last longer. He can be on the field for more than half an hour in our way of playing General Journal.

The Mexican international, who was attracted last summer, has now completely landed in Rotterdam. “He has been very popular with our supporters from day one. What I think is great: that you come from Mexico and you adapt so quickly inside and outside the lines. That is worthy of a great compliment. But also one towards his teammates who make him feel so at home on the field,” says Slot.

The 21-year-old striker has so far scored nine goals in the league, two in the KNVB Cup and five in the Europa League. His productivity puts him on the radar of big clubs in Europe. “It is constantly full of scouts who come to see it,” says Dennis te Kloese. According to the general manager of Feyenoord, there is no concrete interest yet and the striker intends to play a little longer in the Eredivisie. Te Kloese agrees with that line of thought. “He has only really been in the base since the winter break”.
