International Archery Federation lifts ban on Russian and Belarusian archers

World Archery, the International Archery Federation, has decided to reinstate Russian and Belarusian athletes in the competition. The body announced on Friday that it would follow the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee by allowing archers from both countries to compete individually, under a neutral banner.

“The Board expressed its support (for the IOC’s recommendations) and agreed to explore a timetable for the return of these athletes under strict eligibility conditions, allowing only the reinstatement of individuals who can prove their neutrality through a Independent Review Process »explained World Achery in his press release.

The sports world today is divided by the question. Several federations, in particular that of fencing or table tennis, have also decided to lift the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes. Others, like that of badminton (BWF) earlier in the day, or that of athletics (World Athletics) have decided to maintain it, despite the recommendations of the IOC.
