In Saint-Pol-de-Léon, 3D shooting combines nature and competition – Saint-Pol-de-Léon

The Compagnie d’arc de Saint-Pol-de-Léon is organizing the Finistère 3D shooting championship in the park of the Château de Kernévez, this Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April 2023. 142 archers are present over these two days for titles of champion of Finistère, or even more, as indicated by the leader, Tony Bothorel. “Some are aiming for qualification for the French championship in early August. » 24 animal targets (boar, bear, snake, goat, etc.) have been positioned in the park. The farthest target is 145m away. The archers leave in number of four and they self-refer. “The heart of the target is worth eleven points, informs Tony Bothorel. Touching the beast is worth five points so as not to leave empty-handed”.

Didier Poder, from the Plœuc-L’Hermitage club (22) and Thomas Lafaye, from the Plourin-lès-Morlaix club, team up for the duration of the course.

A discipline of precision

Didier Poder, from the Plœuc-L’Hermitage club (22) and Thomas Lafaye, from the Plourin-lès-Morlaix club, team up for the duration of the course. Both have archery experience. “It’s a precision discipline. On this circuit, it’s quite easy since it’s flat”, comments the Costarmorican. For the licensee of Plourin, this competition gives him well-being. “We are in nature. When I practice 3D shooting, it’s to have the frame like here. “Sometimes, the elements come to mingle with the address as for Thomas who is not satisfied with his result after his shot. “I had a bad distance estimate on my first arrow and a bit of wind on the second so a lack of stability. »

An immersion in nature

A little further, Arnaud Prizer and Paul Le Bars are also in full action. “It’s different than indoors. We are outside in great settings. The firing distance is unknown. The two Leonards believe that under the playful aspect, the performance is always present.

For Corinne Le Pelettier, from the Quimper club, this is her first 3D shooting competition. “This discipline gives me a lot of escape, especially in this setting of the Château de Kernevez. I’m used to shooting at straw but I admit that at targets, it’s not that easy. It is difficult to assess the distance from the shot”. The three archers admit that even if the targets seem easy, there is always a little pressure of the result. “There is a title of champion of Finistère”, concludes Arnaud Prizer.

Once the target has been hit, the archers come to collect their arrows and count the points.
