HSV: Hrubesch fires ex-professional Reinhardt in the U16 relegation battle | Sports

Bastian Reinhardt (47) was with HSV everything in the last 20 years. Seven seasons as a professional, sports director, youth boss, youth coach.

Now it’s over. The ex-defender was fired.

Reinhardt was deep in the basement of the Regionalliga Nord with his U16s (20 games, 25 points). Six games before the end of the season, there is a risk of relegation. Young boss Horst Hrubesch (72) reacted, released Reinhardt and his assistant coach Torben Gurtmann (29).

On Sunday (2 p.m., HSV campus) against third-placed Werder Bremen, former U17 coach Thomas Johrden (36) is on the bench. As an interim coach, he should avoid falling into the Oberliga Hamburg in the coming weeks.

Reinhardt has already said goodbye to the team, says on hsv.de: “I would have liked to have continued, but now I wish our team all the best in the final spurt of the season to keep the class.”

The former defender experienced a career down in the Volkspark.

Shortly after the end of his active playing career (132 Bundesliga appearances, nine goals for HSV), he directly became a sports director. HSV had been looking for a successor to Dietmar Beiersdorfer (59) for months – and couldn’t find it. Reinhardt was just available. At that time he gained his first experiences as an intern in the club.

It quickly became clear that a career starter is not the big solution. After a year it was over. HSV brought Frank Arnesen (66) from Chelsea.

Reinhardt became a junior manager, after two years his expiring contract was not extended in 2013. In 2015 he made a comeback as a coach in the Volkspark. First as an assistant to Christian Titz (52/since 2021 in Magdeburg), later as head coach of the B and C youth.

In 2022, the ex-professional had just acquired the new A+ coaching license in the DFB course.

After two decades, the HSV chapter is now over for him.
