The Frenchman is the 14th HSV professional to receive this honor. Most recently, the Dutch attacker Eljero Elia (36) won the coveted medal. On December 12, 2009, Elia scored with a lob in Nuremberg to make it 1-0 (final score: 4-0).

Dompé played out at HSV for the first time

Back to Dompé: In terms of sport, things have not been going well for the dribbler who is in poor form, who switched to Hamburg from Zulte Waregem for 1.1 million euros in the summer.

The Frenchman has not been in the starting XI since the Nuremberg game (March 4th, 2023). In the derby triumph against St. Pauli (4:3) also received the maximum penalty from Tim Walter (47). He took Dompé out at halftime and replaced him with his fellow striker Ransford Königsdörffer (21).

And rightly so. In the first half, Dompé did not work backwards as desired, simply letting the opponent’s right flank with Manolis Saliakas (26) and Oladapo Afolayan (25) run.

Consequently, Saliakas scored the 1-0 lead for the guests in the 36th minute. At that time there was no sign of Dompé.

What made Walter particularly upset: Most recently, the coach and captain Sebastian Schonlau (28) took the agile attacker to his chest in training, loudly criticized his lousy backwards movement.

Clear case for the coach: If you don’t want to listen, you have to feel in the city derby…
