Hokky Caraka Apologizes After Making Upset on Social Media About the U-20 World Cup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Hokky Caraka U-20 national team striker apologized after the uproar made on social media. He admitted that he was emotional because the U-20 World Cup was canceled in Indonesia and the Garuda Muda squad failed to appear.

“I, Hokky Caraka, apologize to all groups and individuals who were offended by the statement I gave, both verbally and in writing on social media,” Hokky wrote via Instagram Story on his personal account. @hokkycaraka_ on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

FIFA has officially ruled out Indonesia as the host for the 2023 U-20 World Cup following the situation in the country which rejected the presence of the Israeli national team, some of which came from the Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster and the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo.

Netizens also raided the social media accounts of the two regional officials to express their disappointment, including Hokky Caraka. He commented on Ganjar Pranowo’s Instagram account with satirical sentences.

“Thank you very much sir, we know that your luck has been good, while we, sir? We just want to start a career to be better, but our stepping stone has been destroyed by the father,” said Hokky’s comment in Ganjar’s Instagram comment column. @ganjar_pranowo.

The player who strengthens the PSS Sleman club said the comments were the result of a feeling of disappointment because the U-20 World Cup was canceled in Indonesia. His dream and that of his other U-20 national team colleagues to compete in the biennial football tournament had to come to an end.

“All of this cannot be separated from my feelings of disappointment, annoyance, and sadness after receiving the news and the fact that the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia has been cancelled.Hokky wrote.

Previously, Hokky was also criticized by netizens for his various statements on social media which were considered excessive. The 18-year-old shared a photo of himself slumped over the pitch with caption in English, which means he doesn’t know what to do after the 2023 U-20 World Cup was canceled in Indonesia.

In the comments section of the upload, many players provide support for Hokky, including his lover. But not a few also cursed him because he was considered weak.

“You shouldn’t even complain, fix yourself so you can enter via the official channel, not the giveaway route,” wrote the account @harsseven.

After Indonesia was eliminated, FIFA will soon announce the new host for the U-20 World Cup in the near future and the strongest candidate is Argentina. The tournament will continue as originally scheduled from 20 May – 11 June 2023.
