Hoffenheim wins the basement duel against Schalke

At the end of the 27th matchday in the German Bundesliga, TSG Hoffenheim celebrated a comfortable 2-0 win against FC Schalke 04.

With the third win in a row, the Sinsheimers took another important step towards staying up. After initial difficulties under neo-coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, Christoph Baumgartner and Co. also prove against the traditional club that the existing squad is certainly suitable for the Bundesliga.

As in the last few weeks, the ÖFB legionnaire is in good shape and has his feet in the game for both goals. He sensationally initiates the attack for the early opening goal with a one-two with Angelino, the Spaniard’s subsequent cross is unfortunately extended by Schalke’s Alex Kral into his own goal (22./ET).

Hoffenheim remained the dominant team for the entire duration of the game and finally followed suit in the second half. Again it is Baumgartner who enters the penalty area at high speed and can only be stopped by a foul.

Ihlas Bebou misses the due penalty, but Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann moves off his line too early and the penalty is repeated. In the second attempt, Bebou did better and secured the three points for his team (71st/eleven).

TSG improves to 14th place with 28 points, Schalke (21 points) is bottom of the table again after Stuttgart’s victory over VFL Bochum.
