Boxscore

The Heidenheim Heideköpfe could also win game two of their double header against the Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg. After the 5-2 win in game one, manager Klaus Eckle’s players prevailed 3-2 in game two on Saturday and will remain undefeated in the 2023 season in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga even after five games. The summit meeting in the south had to be held as a double header due to the game being canceled on Friday evening.

After three innings without points at the beginning of the game, the Guggenberger Legionnaires took a 1-0 lead in the fourth period thanks to a sac fly by David Grimes and a run by Alexander Schmidt. But immediately the hosts turned the score around again. Gary Owens equalized in the bottom half of the game from a wild pitch. Billy Germaine followed shortly thereafter on an RBI single by Daniel Vavrusa. A round later, Drew Janssen extended the lead to 3-1 with an RBI single and a run from Phillip Schulz. Regensburg reduced the lead to 2-3 in the sixth inning when David Dinski crossed home plate on an RBI groundout by Matt Vance.

Jared Mortensen got the win with seven good innings on the mound. He only gave up the two runs on four hits and no walks. He sent five batters back into the dugout with strikeouts. On the other side, Jan Tomek allowed six hits, three runs and a base on balls in 4 1/3 innings and had to settle for the loss.
