Holder of a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis from childhood and I have always loved reading the beautiful stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them, take full advantage of my passion and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.

It’s an announcement that certainly makes a lot of fans happy. The president of the French Tennis Federation, Gilles Moretton, has announced the extension of the broadcasting rights for Roland-Garros on France Télévisions and Prime Video until 2027. We are therefore continuing on the same path but there will be some changes in the organization from the 2023 edition.

Hot file at each contract renewal, the distribution of Roland-Garros will always remain well accessible on the public service in France for some time. Last year, France Televisions had all the courts apart from the Simonne Mathieureserved for Prime Video, just like the “night session. If the details have not yet been given, a new organization will have to be planned.

France Télévisions almost exclusively

Contrary to before, France Televisions will recover the broadcasting rights on all the courts of the Stade Roland-Garros. Indeed, the matches of short Simonne-Mathieu were then broadcast on Prime Video. But this change should only take place from 2024, which means that the 2023 edition should not differ from that of 2022. Note that the co-broadcasting for the semi-finals and finals is retained. However, the amount of the new contract has not been revealed.

Prime Video garde les « night session »

As was already the case, Prime Video will, on the other hand, broadcast the “night sessions”, on the program since 2021. Indeed, each evening until Wednesday of the second week, the matches of the Court Philippe Chatrier will be broadcast only on the platform of the American giant. Last year, each “night session” was scheduled for 9 p.m. with the “best poster” of the day reserved, which created big debates.

Big debate in sight?

For the moment, there is not yet any precision on the “night session”. It is not known if several matches will be offered on the same day with an earlier start or if the best poster will be kept for the evening. Last year, the quarter-final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic was scheduled for the evening, which angered a large number of fans. For now we just know that Prime Video will go from 10 to 11 night sessions.
