Giro d’Italia 2023: Filippo Ganna focuses on time trials. Stellar challenges with Evenepoel and Roglic

Less and less in the Grand Tour season. We begin, as usual, with the Giro d’Italia, with edition number 106 which will start from Fossacesia Marina with a 19.6 km time trial. The first, very first chance to strike for Filippo Ganna, who will be at the start of the Corsa Rosa to expand his tally of six stages won in his career, five of which in time trials.

After a spring in which he tested himself as a protagonist in the great classics, obtaining very encouraging results between Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix, the Verbania locomotive returns to its very first love: three time trials to be contested, of which the first two, the Fossacesia Marina-Ortona and the Savignano sul Rubicone-Cesena, which adapt very well to its characteristics.

But this year two opponents will come together, not to laugh at, two men who will take every time trial very seriously, just like every kilometer of this Corsa Rosa. Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic. Both, in their victories at the Vuelta, have used time trials as a launching pad for success, and they certainly won’t want to make concessions.

Already in the first 18.4 kilometers of racing that will take place on May 6th, we can expect a trill not to laugh about for the first pink jersey. When each runner’s only opponent is ticking the clock, they will be Ganna, Evenepoel and Roglic to have all eyes on him. And they expect it, and will arrive very ready for the eventuality.
