Ghent has a free path towards Champions’ Play-offs, Vandenbempt thinks: “He is getting more and more desperate”

With two matchdays to go, AA Gent has taken fourth place because they have won one more time than Club Brugge. And even if blue-black still takes six out of six, Peter Vandenbempt does not see things going wrong for the Buffalos.

Ghent still has matches against KV Mechelen and KV Oostende, two clubs that are completely lost. “It would be a huge disappointment for Ghent if things still go wrong,” said Vandenbempt in De Ochtend.

“KV Oostende is almost dead, just like KV Mechelen. It would be downright painful to drop points there, even with two European games against West Ham in between. What happened to KV Mechelen? Lost four times and fourteen goals conceded… You see Steven Defour getting more desperate every week.”

“He tries to explain that you can’t lose all matches and then suddenly be sharp for that cup final. But his players really don’t seem to get it.”
