Fred VanVleet sets a record

Fred VanVleet was all fired up in Toronto Reports’ 128-108 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday afternoon at the Spectrum Center.

The 28-year-old American had 20 points and 20 assists. It was the first time in the history of the Canadian organization that one of its players achieved this feat.

VanVleet’s 20 assists also set a team record for most assists in a game. The old mark was 19 assists. Kyle Lowry, Damon Stoudamire and Jose Calderon all amassed that number of assists during their time with the Raptors.

Against the Hornets, it was Pascal Siakam who sounded the charge. He had 36 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. OG Anunoby was not outdone with his 23 points.

Quebecer Chris Boucher had seven points and five rebounds in 16 minutes of play.

The win moved the Raptors to a 39-39 record and edged the Atlanta Hawks to eighth in the Eastern Conference standings. The formation of Georgia will however have the opportunity to pass again in front of the unique Canadian formation of the NBA by beating the Dallas Mavericks in the evening.

The Raptors return to action on Tuesday against those same Hornets.
