Formula 1 – Ferrari fails with an objection – Sport

The Formula 1 team Ferrari has failed in an attempt to appeal against the classification of the Australian Grand Prix. As the world motorsport association Fia announced on Tuesday, the race stewards rejected the action taken by the racing team to challenge a five-second penalty against the Spaniard Carlos Sainz using the so-called “right to reassessment”. The Ferrari driver is still classified in twelfth place and has no championship points. Ferrari wanted to use the appeal to try to get the 28-year-old’s penalty retried. It doesn’t get that far after the race on April 2nd. According to an official document, the Fia saw no new and relevant reasons to look at and evaluate the events again.

Ferrari was “disappointed” in a statement, but the Fia’s decision is respected. Sainz had cleared his compatriot Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin at the last standing restart and received a time penalty for it. He then crossed the finish line in fourth place, but fell back eight places due to the sanctions and was therefore out of the points.
