Florida: houses in Woodland and still a golf project in Inverrary

Some 330 luxury houses erected on the fairways of the defunct Woodland club while next door, at Inverrary, the project of a new 18 holes is still in the plans, such is the latest news concerning these two golf clubs closed there is just over 2 years in the Fort Lauderdale Florida area.

And this news comes from golfers who own condos on the outskirts of these deserted alleys and who attended the last meeting organized by the City of Lauderhill to take stock of the file. “It’s encouraging”, to launch Mr. Gilles Chapdeleine with whom we spoke a few days after the famous meeting.

“It’s encouraging for people living in the Inverrary area, he said, because it’s more possible that a new golf course will be built on the premises unlike Woodland where there, it seems, c is decided, there will be houses built on the space made free with the closure of the 2 18-hole courses.

According to what was mentioned by the people of the municipality, during the meeting, a real estate developer, Thirteen Homes, will erect in Woodland (headline photo) 330 houses which will sell for between $700,000 and $1.2 million. Which, subsequently, will create a nasty traffic problem on Commercial Blvd, the authorities agreed during this information session.

On the Inverrary side, according to what meeting participants heard, golf courses are valued at $17 million. The owner of the hotel neighboring the land (the Chateau Mar Golf Resort), present at the meeting, is keen to develop a golf course on site, there is no question of the construction of new houses, otherwise his hotel will not will not be profitable.

He therefore wants the project to build there to be a route of the type championship or one of type executive, to become true. He would count on a partner, a company headquartered in Portugal, to develop the new course in addition to adding an academy for young soccer players in the region.

“That’s why I’m confident,” said Mr. Chapdeleine, adding that since the closure of golf, it’s total desolation on the course.

“I live near the 7th hole of the old West course, he explains, and the body of water that was set up there is invaded by all kinds of grass, it has become a swamp.”

Wolves…

It’s not just the grasses that are invasive, it seems, but new fauna is gradually taking hold. According to Mr. Chapdeleine, someone said during the meeting that a family of wolves would now find refuge there. “Me, I have never seen wolves on the ground, he insisted, but someone spoke about it.”

Since the closing of the Inverrary 36 holes and the Woodland 36 holes, which were preceded by a few other clubs that also closed their fairways in previous years, the golf situation in South Florida, East Coast, has changed a lot. Playing golf at reasonable costs or, if you will, more affordable, is no longer the case.

The supply having decreased without the demand following the same downward slope, it now costs nearly $100 Canadian for a game on a suitable ground while in some places, we take advantage of the windfall without necessarily improving the playing conditions. And still it is necessary to succeed in getting a golf start at the desired time…

To return to Woodland, it is therefore necessary to forget the golf definitively there and as for Inverrary, the question remains to know when the accomplishment of these projects?

“During the meeting, underlines Mr. Gilles Chapdeleine, nothing was specified as to whether, once a new golf course has been built there, the residents of the sector will be able to have certain advantages for playing there.”

The Inverrary area has hundreds of condo buildings grouped into 32 condominium associations.
