FFF – The new plan to develop women’s football

After the FFF comex today, chaired by Philippe Diallo, the new guidelines for developing women’s football in France have been unveiled.

Some days after having appointed Hervé Renard as coach of Les Bleues, the FFF presented the actions it was going to put in place in the territory to develop women’s football.

This development strategy begins first with a financial effort. Philippe Diallo announced the increase in allocations for women’s football to the tune of “dand 20 to 25%, i.e. 4 to 5 M€ additional ».

The format

Then, the professional championships will experience an overhaul. Now for the D1 Arkema, the title and the qualifications for the Champions League will be decided in the form of playoffs. The D2 will be made up of a single pool of 12 teams and the third division of two groups of 12 clubs. At the level of young women, the categories U16 et U20 will be established.

The professionals

All clubs in the first and second divisions will obtain professional status. The FFF will also create a professional women’s football league, which will operate within the federation itself and not independently. Chaired by a woman, it will be effective from July 2024.

An agreement concerning maternity and medical problems will also see the light of day.

The calendar

The schedule for next season has also been revealed. The Champions Trophy will be played in Troyes on September 10. The season will start on September 16 and 17. The semi-finals, finals and small finals of the play-offs will take place on May 12, 18 and 19 respectively. The first three clubs of these play-offs will go to the Champions League.

From next season, the FFF specifies that the clubs will have certain obligations in terms of broadcasting equipment. Lighting, quality of lawns and platforms for cameras, covered stands… The French football federation really wants to facilitate the broadcasting of matches. A call for tenders for meetings of clubs and selection elsewhere summer spear.

For the French team, it concerns the qualifications for Euro 2025, but also the friendly matches preparing for the Olympic Games 2024, the 2027 World Cup as well as the Nations League from September. There will be an obligation to broadcast matches in clear.

For the clubs, a call for tenders will concern the distribution of the Champions Trophy until 2027. 4 others will apply to the D1 Arkema with an obligation to broadcast all matches, including at least ten matches in clear.
